Camera Icon Jon and Sheryl with son William, 3, and Thomas, 4 months, who has terminal cancer. This has included throwing Thomas a first birthday party so he could have at least one big bash, taking him on a family holiday to Queensland where he went on his first theme park ride (a Looney Tunes carousel), going on family road trips and enjoying sunset picnics at the beach and park. The Blanksby family, including elder brother William, almost 4, are trying to make the most of the time they have left with Thomas and squeeze in as many memories they can as a family of four. His parents decided against chemotheraphy and took Thomas home. Thomas underwent surgery to remove the tumour and his left kidney but the cancer had already spread to his lungs and hip, resulting in a fracture to his right femur. Suspicions were raised after Thomas was born with a lesion on his arm, which his parents thought was a birthmark but was in fact another tumour, and his GP felt a lump on his abdomen, with tests confirming the terminal diagnosis. Thomas, the Blanksbys’ second son and cherished “rainbow baby” after they suffered a miscarriage last year, was only 11 weeks old when doctors delivered the worst news imaginable - a malignant Rhabdoid tumour on his kidney meant he likely only had weeks or months left to live. They are trying to squeeze in as many precious family moments as they can in the short time that Thomas has left.
